Artisans

The Artisans Woodworking Program is a six-month career-training program that teaches homeless and at-risk youth the techniques and applied craft of fine woodworking. Housed in a well-equipped woodshop, skilled crafts persons work with youth ages 18 and older, instructing them in the safe use of traditional hand and conventional power tools.

The goal of the Artisans Program is to equip youth with marketable skills, experience and knowledge that will lead to meaningful employment and advanced education in woodworking or another career field. Youth start out with small scale projects, making boxes and creative bookmarks. Soon they advance to the larger hope box and other unique items. Youth receive a weekly stipend based on hours worked. Transportation and lunch subsidies assist youth while participating in the program.
